Wood betony is an herbaceous perennial that is good to Zone 4. It prefers well drained, dry soil pH: 6.5-7.5 Full sun to shade. When planting, space 12-24 inches apart. Grows 2-3 feet tall and 2 feet wide. The flowers are a bright blue to red-purple, arranged in whorls on the top of the spikes, that bloom in July to August. The leaves are about 5 inches long, spearhead-shaped with scalloped edges and slightly hairy. Best grown near the back of a flower bed or as a high border.
